Watchmaking tools:
Screwdrivers

Each watchmaker's screwdriver is a tool that has been meticulously thought out and designed for the uninitiated.

Screwdriver size is governed by a coloured ring. For each screw reference, you'll need to use the right screwdriver to avoid slipping and overtightening. Four screwdrivers are included in your set.

Just like the watchmaking components in your set, your screwdrivers are also 100% made in the French-Swiss Jura Arc! Their blades have been specially developed in unannealed copper-beryllium alloy, to limit the risk of scratches. This is the first time this manufacturing partner has opted for such a solution to protect your timepiece.

Watchmaking tools:
The oil pick

The lid of the oil bottle is cleverly designed so that the watchmaker can open or close it with just one hand, offering essential practicality during assembly. What's more, the oil pick is a tool with a meticulously calibrated tip, ensuring precise deposition of the right amount of oil on watch components.

The oil used here is non-polymerizing and viscous enough to stay in place on the axles.

Watchmaking tool: The magnifying glass

The emblematic tool of the watchmaker, commonly called a "micros" in the jargon of the trade, is a magnifying glass with remarkable properties. There are various levels of magnification. The magnifier supplied with this kit is grade "2.5", corresponding to the essential working magnifier. Although it requires some initial training to be correctly positioned on the directing eye, its use quickly becomes intuitive. By placing the large-diameter "micros" against the eye and opening it wide, then returning to a normal position, the magnifier adjusts easily and stays in place. At a distance of around 6 cm from the object to be observed, sharpness of vision is optimal.

Watchmaking tools:
The tweezers

The watchmaker calls them brucelles(*), but spells them in the plural! It's a pair of pliers with springy handles. You use them to grip miniature parts. With the exception of large components such as the bridge and plate, regulator, circular feet, dial, spacers and barrel, which can be picked up with the fingers, all other parts must be handled with the tweezers.

Unlike other watchmaking tools, tweezers require a little practice: practice gripping and resting on the foam or chamois before carrying the precious little Perseus components over the workspace!

Your tweezers have been selected by Maison Alcée in brass rather than stainless steel, to reduce the risk of scratches caused by an inexperienced hand.

Watchmaking tools: Fingertips

Among the indispensable tools of any budding watchmaker, finger cots play a crucial role in the preservation of each component. It is recommended to work with latex fingertips threaded onto four fingers of each hand: thumb, index, middle and ring fingers. The reason for this requirement is to prevent the natural acidity of the skin from oxidizing the components. This protection also prevents the effect of perspiration, which could cause the watchmaking tools or component to slip.

Watchmaking tools:
The membrane box

At the heart of the watchmaking experience is the membrane box, a singular and essential tool. The membrane box is used to protect the regulator from any external shocks that may occur, ensuring its protection prior to assembly.
